2000 HdV Napa Valley Red Wine (Hyde Vineyard)

A complex bouquet of red and black berries in the front giving way to the presence of the cabernet as it evolves toward leather, cedar and finally dark chocolate. It is in the mouth that the concentration and strong structure of the wine are most manifest, although the attack is gentle and round. The moderate climate and temperatures at the end of the season allowed a complete maturation of the tannins that combine harmoniously with the raspberry/blackberry characteristics of the fruit.

"This blend is predominately Merlot with a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon. The word that comes to mind in describing this wine is elegance. It is fruit forward in style, with rich spicy red and black currant fruit flavors. The tannins are soft and supple and the finish is long and complex."

Rating: Four and a half stars
"First release, medium full purple red color. Extremely aromatic and complex: Bordeaux-like in its intensity and sublety. Full bodied but not fleshy; a supple, well balanced blend, with considerable length. It tastes of plum, cherry, vanilla, violet, and new oak."

"($55) Highly nuanced nose combines orange zest, truffle, iodine, mint, spices, lavender, dusty stone and nutty oak. Very intense, minerally, savory flavors of lemon, iodine and Islay scotch, all nicely framed by spicy oak. Finishes dry, subtle and long, with a flavor of peach."
